Home Shredding benefits

Interests of shredding vine shoots and tree branches

In vineyards and orchards, the appropriate maintenance of pruning wood and areas between rows plays a significant role. Above all, fine shredding is the key:

  • to accelerate decomposition and transformation into humus,
  • to control certain parasites, diseases and weeds.

Keep plantations healthy

Pruning wood is an ideal environment for pests and diseases. Shredding preserves the health of plantations by increasing the contact area between matter and microorganisms. The larger the contact area, the better the decomposition of the residues. Harmful species then have neither the time nor the room to grow. The quality of the wine and fruits is therefore preserved.

Reduce the use of herbicides

The shredding of the plant cover between rows is an essential and effective measure against the spread of weeds. It requires intervention before weed seeds emerge. By preventing the spread of seeds, this mechanical control reduces the use of herbicides between rows.

Enrich soil and plantations

Plant cover between rows is an important measure to prevent soil erosion and increase soil humus content. Fine shredding increases the surface area of organic matter that microorganisms can turn into humus. A high humus content offers many advantages:

  • increased nutrients available to nourish the crops and fertilise soils,
  • improved soil structure and stability,
  • stimulation of biological activity.

Shredding is also an effective way to reduce evaporation and protect the surface of the ground from solar radiation. Already scarce water resources are preserved in the soil and remain available for vines and trees.

Benefit from a sustainable energy resource

Pruning wood can become an economic and ecological energy resource. By being harvested following shredding, it becomes a renewable energy source by reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, and serving as an economical heating fuel, produced ecologically on the farm.

A COMPREHENSIVE KUHN OFFER FOR YOUR PLANTATIONS

KUHN offers a full range of shredders for vineyards and orchards. The technical solutions are diverse: each model is optimized or adjustable for the intended use and conditions encountered in the field. All shredders incorporate common features that make shredding easier while ensuring unrivalled robustness and reliability.

KUHN's vineyard and orchard shredders are designed to meet two key objectives: QUALITY WORK and MAXIMALE SERVICE LIFE.

BV 10 series shredders, small width shredding standard

These shredders offer a working width ranging from 0.96 to 1.53 m requiring traction power of up to 90 hp. These machines are used mainly to shred branches less than 5 cm in diameter and maintain the grass cover between rows.

BV and BVR 100 series shredders, large width shredding standard

With a working width ranging from 1.53 to 2.24 m, the KUHN BV 100 shredders fit perfectly wide spacing between rows with the lateral offset possibility. The BVR 100-series shredders, which can be coupled to the front or rear, come with a lateral offset possibility resulting in working width ranging from 1.53 to 1.91 m. Thanks to their low design, working under plantations is safe and without damaging them. The use of these ranges will allow you to shred branches up to 8 cm in diameter and maintain the grass cover between rows.

BV and BVR 1000 series shredders, specialists of large volumes in orchards

With a working width of 1.72 to 2.33 m for the BV 1000 series and 1.54 to 2.07 m for the BVR 1000 series, you can easily work in orchards with olive trees, orange trees or walnut trees, with a large volume of residues, branches of large diameter, up to 12 cm, grass and brush. The shredders in both ranges can be offset laterally. The BVR 1000 series can be couple to the front or rear for increased versatility. Their size has been designed to facilitate passage under the plantations without damaging them. The tools are suitable to work in the woodiest residues.

The TDP 1000 series shredder, intended for intensive conditions in orchards

The TDP shredder, with a working width of 1.60 to 2.25 m, is intended for shredding large quantities of pruning wood (up to 12 cm) and intensive conditions of use. This high shredding capacity allows them to work easily in orchards with olive trees, orange trees or walnut trees. Its fixed hitch allows enables work in the front position or rear in reverse drive station position.

TRP over-ground shredders adapted to stony grounds

With a working width of 0.95 to 1.73 m, these over-ground models effectively shred pruning wood, even in difficult conditions, such as exposed soils. TRP shredders are equipped with a pick-up that thoroughly rakes all residue to be shredded in the casing, without picking up impurities or stones. Its robust design and components also contribute to an impeccable shredding result.

The TRP 175 PRO REV shredder can work in the most difficult conditions, especially in orchards where branches are of large diameter: olive trees, citrus fruit trees and almond trees. The shredder can be coupled to the front, rear or reversed drive station position.

SDS shredders for delivering the shredded material on the rows

KUHN's SDS range also allows the shredded material to be delivered as mulch on the row. Available in 4 working widths, from 1.20 to 2.03 m, you mechanically manage the growth of grass on the row, you bring organic matter to the plants and you retain moisture at the roots. Mulch used as an alternative to weeding reduces the consumption of plant protection products in viticulture and arboriculture. You are effectively fighting weeds not only between the rows but also on the rows.
